San Francisco: The City That Stole My Heart

I literally fell in LOVE with San Francisco while I was there.  That city is so darn beautiful; the views will take your breath away, and the weather…Ugh!  It is currently my favorite city!  I will live there someday soon…I am just going to put that into the atmosphere.

Anywho, before I went, I made a checklist of all the places I wanted to visit and I hit every spot on that list!  Billy Goat Hill Park (for the swings and the views), Off The Grid (for the food!), Painted Ladies.. just to name a few. One of the most memorable places that I found was the actual Tanner House used in the tv show Full House! This was my favorite show so I can't explain how geeked I was! I had so much fun that I barely took any pics but please, enjoy those that I do have!

P.S. One place that I did not know about until I left is the San Francisco City Hall.  I found it through a hashtag and some wedding pictures that I saw on Instagram.  The place is UHH-MAZING!  Please check it out if you ever get to visit San Fran, it is gorgeous!

Next up… “Nawlins” That post will be ALL about food, I am sure! (lol) See you soon!

#Roadtrippin: The Canadian Edition

So I didn’t get to stamp the passport on this particular trip, but the experience was one of the best I’ve had in a while.  Canada had been one of my places to visit for some time, but like most of us, I kept pushing it off, making other plans, saying it was not in the budget, completely forgetting about the idea, blah, blah, blah!  So this past summer I thought, hmmm.. there is no time like the present!  I dropped all the excuses, grabbed two of my cousins and we made the 7 hour journey to Canada!!

Now anybody that knows me knows that I LOVE black history ( I think I’ve shared this before), so the first stop on our road trip was to Auburn, New York to visit the Harriet Tubman property.  She lived here for about 30 years and the entire property is about 30 acres, she owned it all! Kudos to her! I would definitely recommend visiting this property if you can…The tour guide is super knowledgeable and the overall tour is very informative!

After a few more hours of driving, we finally made it to Canada!  We stayed in Niagara Falls which is very beautiful and I got to see it lit up at night.  (Just take my advice and stay on the Canadian side rather than the New York side of the Falls.. you will thank me later!)

We definitely could not visit Canada without “Running through The 6,” so the next day we headed to Toronto! While in Toronto I did one of, if not the, scariest thing in my life..Edgewalking on the famous CN Tower!  The experience was so fun but frightening at the same time.  We were literally so high up that you could see Niagara Falls, which is about an hour and a half away!  You can also look down into the stadium where the Toronto Blue Jays play and from that high up, the stadium literally looked like a saucer. If you aren’t feeling “daredevilish” enough to Edgewalk, I would definitely recommend at least visiting the CN Tower because the views are breathtaking!  Until next time…XO!

Gems In Our Backyard: The Peter Mott House

So it is no secret that I love to explore and travel to new territories and places but I have learned that there are a lot of noteworthy and interesting places worth visiting that are very close to my hometown.  I am now on a mission to visit them all!  Those that I recommend you visit will be highlighted under the theme, "Gems in Our Backyard." First up- The Peter Mott House!

The Peter Mott house is the home of African-American farmer, Peter Mott.  He built the home himself and he lived there with his wife until about 1879.  The house is a National site because it served as a stop on the Underground Railroad.  What is so special about this site, according to Lawnside Historical Society President Linda Waller, is that, " It is very rare that you find an African-American Underground Railroad site; property owned by a person of color and in an African-Amerian community. That just makes this that much more powerful; I'm not sure that there is any other place exactly like this in the United States."

The Mott residence is the oldest structure in Lawnside, NJ and is being restored by the Lawnside Historical Society.  You can tour the property on Saturdays from 12-3pm and I definitely will say that it is worth the visit!  Check out the pics from my time there…
